Purple Watch 2018 and More

Hello My Lavender Loving Friends, Purple Watch 2018 has finally begun!! Our Folgate and Royal Velvet are looking good and we’re watching them closely for signs of bloom. The rest of our English varieties are not far behind. Sadly, Mother Nature has not been kind to us. Our French varieties and some of our English are struggling. They suffered some damage from the long brutal winter and the cool temps this spring. Add to that, the lack of sunshine and frequent rainy days isn’t helping. Even though we haven’t lost any, some are not looking their best and we're hoping they make it. The rest are sending up stems and flower heads are starting to form. In the meantime we're praying for more sunshine and less rain. Our gardens are looking beautiful and our gift shop is loaded with your favorite lavender products and a few new ones too.

It's with a heavy heart that I share the sad news that we lost 5 members of the City Girl Flock last week. My heart is broken. A few weeks ago I lost Fiona to a fox during the day. Since then the girls have been on lock down, which they absolutely hate. The day of the attack, I made the unfortunate decision to let them out for a little while as they were extremely stressed from being locked up. When I went to check on them I discovered a clump of Miss Amelia’s feathers. My heart sank and panic immediately set in. As I searched their pen I discovered their lifeless bodies one by one. RIP Fiona, Zoila, Ethel, Fernanda, Esther and Miss Amelia. Yes they're "just chickens" but they were my chickens and I loved them so. The remaining 3, Ruby, the only one left from my original flock (2014) and Phoebe and Wilhelmina, from my 2016 flock, will remain on lock down which breaks my heart just as much as the loss of my sweet spoiled feathered babies.
